DREAM OR REALITY ?

When we learned that The Dreamers is one of Berrak Tüzünataç’s favourite films, we decided to do a photo shoot inspired by the story. Pınar Aytaş added modern stylistic touches to the setting, which takes place in 1960s Paris. From Ergin Turunç’s lens…

We know that The Dreamers by Bernardo Bertolucci is one of your favourite films. What does this film mean to you?

This film makes beautiful observations about how one can live without any social, cultural, economic, and familial pressure. Among the characters of the film, I relate the most to Matthew, who came from the U.S. to Paris to study.

A sense of freedom never perceived before, living based solely on your instincts, and the devoid of a judgement mechanism… On the other hand, it’s set in a period I’ve always been interested in. Seeing the days of the Cinémathèque in Paris, watching the references to other films it that world, and witnessing that time really left a lasting impression on me. It’s a very peculiar film for me because it made me think about limitations and freedom.

If you could take one person out to dinner, who would it be?

There’s this woman who’s a clairvoyant in Bulgaria - Baba Vanga. Or Nostradamus. I would choose someone who would share their vision about the future and have proved to be competent at their job.

To what extent we can embrace hedonism in love or personal choices?

I think our limitations always begin right at the point we judge ourselves. As long as we don’t criticize ourselves, anything and everything that makes us feel good can be integrated in our lives.

As a lover of cinema, what do you think is the best film about love?

I think the best movie about love by far is In the Mood for Love. I watched it again recently and it still made the same impact. It’s a true masterpiece. Mesmerizing…

Which movie love story would you like to experience the most?

To be honest, all the movies that come to mind are unfinished stories, some without even a chance to begin, all incomplete narratives. So, they’re films that break your heart, make you cry… I wouldn’t want to experience that although I enjoyed watching them. It’s hard to choose just one from many memorable films about love. I could choose Jeux d'enfants because it’s a game with a mischievous and amusing attitude.

We dedicate this photo shoot to our dear friend Aykut Cömert. He always followed his dreams and never liked to leave them unfulfilled. We realized that it was Aykut who brought us together to realise his incomplete dream through all the “coincidences” we encountered after sharing our idea. Aykut, your chair is here. You would be so much better at it, but we hope you like this one. Until we meet again. We love you.
