Emir Re-mastered

MasterChef, the show we have been following religiously over the course of 6 months, has come to an end. What we will miss the most are the contestants, since we laughed and even cried with them just as if they were our friends. One of the most talked about names of the show was undoubtedly Emir Elidemir. Even though he has placed third in the competition, he won our hearts with his calmness, humility and kindness. Having worked at several Michelin-starred restaurants around the world before joining the show, he now has a beautiful journey ahead of him. We wanted to get personal with Emir, who reminded us that eating is not only something we do for survival, but also a pure form of joy that is best devoured with passion and an insatiable curiosity.

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

I am 26 years old. After graduating high school, I decided to major in Gastronomy at Ozyegin University. While studying, I had summer internships at Michelin star restaurants in the US, France and Holland. Upon finishing college, I spent a year at Benno Restaurant lead by chef Thomas Keller in New York. When I returned to Turkey, I worked at few local restaurants for a short period of time before joining MasterChef Turkey. I came from an athletic family. For that reason, my favourite hobby is exercising. Aside from that, I like participating in activities that will improve my personal growth.

What would you be doing if you weren’t a chef?

If I weren’t a chef, I would probably be a professional athlete. I used to play basketball in my high school years. My only regret in life is that I quit playing basketball so young.

What are you most excited about these days?

I am most excited about upcoming projects that I will be working on after MasterChef.

What is your favourite cuisine in the world? Why?

My favourite cuisine in the world is Turkish. It has an infinite variety of flavours as it has been influenced by numerous cultures over the centuries. French cuisine also carries imprints from its surroundings. Therefore, these two cuisines hold a special place in my heart.

What are your plans after MasterChef?

I would like to focus on local projects first. From now on, I need to be more active on social media. As chefs, we moved away from cooking professionally during the pandemic. I joined MasterChef in order to continue my career without slowing down. I have always enjoyed experiencing different things and pushing my limits. I will continue to do my best and focus on personal development in this regard.
