Academia's capsule collection for Valentine's Day reminded us the real connection between genuine love of another person and self-love or why sometimes being single is the best choice. We were still curious about new gen's approach and had a conversation with young talents Deniz Işın and Fırat Altunmeşe.
Deniz Işın
Deniz Işın is one of the most sought-after names of the moment. The young and talented actress whom has been gaining critical acclaim from her role in Sefirin Kızı, also has an impressive academic formation in chemistry. Since our upcoming issue will be about love, we thought it would be best to figure out the chemistry involved and had a pleasant conversation with Deniz on the concepts of love and self-love.
What do you think is the formula of loving yourself?
I think we need to see ourselves as our own children. We grow together, we continuously try to educate and nourish the child but, in the meantime, that kid is the one to whom we are most cruel in the process. Nevertheless, we should be able to show tolerance to ourselves, as we would to a child that misbehaves, destroys our stuff, occasionally falls and gets back up, and even sometimes is incapable of solving a small problem that would be easy for other people; all in the sake of learning how to live his life. Unfortunately, life doesn’t always give us the opportunity to be understanding of people, what goes on around us and to ourselves at the same time. That is why we should be in peace with ourselves that we re-invent every morning over and over again. You’ll see how everything will seem brighter once you start loving yourself.
What is your biggest dream?
I guess to be in balance, in the flow and open to different points of view in every sense. That, I would consider a real success in my professional and personal life, and of course in all my relationships with people. I even got some tiny tattoos, just so they catch my eye and remind me to keep up with myself…I prefer realizing my small goals instead of long-term dreams; and growing with each one of them just like a snowball. I wouldn’t want to make staying in the moment harder for myself, because than I would miss the actual "moments" I make my dreams come true.
How big is the possibility of loving someone else without loving yourself?
None, unfortunately. I say unfortunately because understanding the importance of loving ourselves is a tough process, but trying to nourish another love without self-love is pointless. At the end of the day, if you don’t love yourself, the love you are trying to grow for someone else would die out without getting a chance to sprout, like a plant in dry soil; even though you may be the most suitable for the occasion. And actually, this is leaving love without love.
What is the definition of love for you?
If we knew what love is, it seems to me, that we would be surrounded by ‘prototype loves’, all the pain erased and all the happiness over-exaggerated. I think we need to be freer on this topic. We need to live and enjoy our feelings rather than paying attention to definitions and limits. Romantic love is simply a variety of love which can be divided into millions within itself; love for family, friends, flowers, insects, work…If I had to call something I go through love, I’d say: "every occasion, every place, every human being with whom I can be myself, laugh like crazy and feel affection."er canlının yanı benim için aşk” diyebilirim.
Do you believe in love at first sight?
I wouldn’t want to give a definite no, but I think what happens at first sight is an electrical pull or a very strong influence rather than love. These feelings are crucial and could very well be the foundation of the ‘real thing’. I am one of those people that believe that love is “too profound to be limited by first sight, so intense that it gets more beautiful as we look at it, simply a timeless time.”
Fırat Altunmeşe
Fırat is a young star that we have been following with admiration on silver screen. He is currently playing Demir on hit TV series Mucize Doktor. Earning praise in every project he is ever been part of and coming from a talented family of musicians, we discussed with Firat the ways to practice self-love.
What do you think is the formula of loving yourself?
Being honest with yourself is key to self-love but it needs to come from a place of self-acceptance and self-respect. Sometimes people may confuse honesty with being cruel to yourself.
What is your biggest dream?
I have been thinking for five minutes and I can’t think of anything that I would call “my biggest dream.” Let’s just say that my biggest dream would be to all of my dreams to come true whether big or small.
How big is the possibility of loving someone else without loving yourself?
I don’t think it is possible at all because if you can’t love yourself, you can’t love somebody else.
What is the definition of love for you?
In my opinion and in short, love is the feeling of being complete.

Yes, I do.
