Welcome to the Future

A few weeks ago when Mark Zuckerberg announced Meta as ‘the next evolution of social connection’, many people just rolled their eyes. But it was even before Zuckerberg that some companies and entrepreneurs already dipped their toes in the metaverse.

After discovering that 9% of customers in developed countries only buy new clothes to make a picture for their social media, founders Daria Shapovalova and Natalia Modenova launched their digital fashion website called DressX . Although, LA based start-up still shares the passion and the admiration that physical fashion creates they firmly believe there are other ways where we could produce and consume less.

Sustainability is an on-going issue in the fashion industry as it produces 20% of global waste. More than 40 billion items end up in landfills. It contributes more to climate change than the annual emissions of sea and air travel combined. Even if you create using recycled or raw materials, vast amounts of water are used to produce. However, digital clothing is eco-friendly. For instance, production of a digital garment, on average, saves 3300 litres of water per item, which is enough for one person to drink 2 litres per day during 3,5 years.

This is where DressX steps in. The first international digital fashion multi-brand retailer allows customers to try and buy 3D digital clothing from its designer marketplace. All you need to do is visit the webpage and pick an outfit from the catalogue. Then select a photo of you that you want the outfit to be applied to and proceed to checkout. Your picture wearing the outfit will be emailed within 1-2 days. Digital fashion not only changes the game for sustainability but it also gives a platform for couture or high fashion pieces that wouldn’t be normally worn without hurting your pocket.

Don’t shop less, shop digital fashion.
